Actively procrastinating and losing my mind :) + Publication updates

Let’s be real here, people that seem to always find loads of time to write and research their work…… SUCK BALLS!!  lol

No, no you don’t.  I suck.

I suck because I can’t seem to get my head together and focus on my writing. *insert face palm emoji here* lol

Everyone else that plans and manages their time better than I do, are worth plenty of praise. You guys are all bombshell people and are the standards I should be living up to. ❤

So, to proceed with my ” I’m mad I’m not writing, so I’m going to write a blog about how mad I am” post :’D

I’m currently 5 chapters into my next novella… and stuck on so many stupid little details…

We are 24 chapters into Stonecrest (Whoop Whoop!!) and I have all confidence we should publish the eBook before the year is out 😀 And Hopefully the paperback will follow right behind it ❤

I’m super excited to physically be lining up books for publications, I really didn’t see myself being at this point by this year. Not that I didn’t (Don’t) have high hopes for my life and writing career, I just try to be down to earth and realistic about the workloads I put on myself and didn’t think it would be a realistic goal for this year… but maybe I’m being to lenient on myself and lowering the bar a bit to much?

Maybe I can manage everything just a little better and readjust my goals and plans?

Maybe I should stop saying “Maybe” and Just do it as the Nike brand says.  Lol

I am aiming towards having my next eBook out this year and shortly after, if the publishers like it, having the paperback follow right along.  And then early/mid 2020 having my next novella published as well ❤

And now that I’ve rambled for a few moments, my brain feels empty enough I can now focus on book and work on some research.

And hopefully get to bed at a decent time frame ….

Bruiser, a newspaper man?

I think Bruiser has shown me just another reason why he was meant to be in my life. 😊

Not only does he have a weird habit of sitting on my shoulders like a parrot (or cat if you know my kiddos at home lol), but he also spent all day Sunday watching me write and edit a few articles, and sat on my lap watching a slew of newspaper based movies.

Most likely he just found the noises curious, but I can pretend he’s a writer at heart and thinking about the thrill of chasing down a good story and beating deadlines. Lol 😅

I feel Bruiser and I are starting over at the beginning. Potty training is a pain in the arse…. females are so much easier to train. Hands down.

And he’s proving to me that he has full intent of finding every loop hole possible to get around following the basic rules of potty training and behavior. My puppy the toddler ladies and gentleman 😅

We’ll get the hang of it.

Hopefully sooner than later 🙏🏼

Feel free to drop your puppy training tips below. Or any funny stories you have about living with your pets 😊

I’m going to start separating my posts a little bit, to make them easier to find since my post topics are so wide.

Be on the look out for a new format and a lot more helpful tips and information on this site 😉

We’re only here for a short time…

So why not make the most of it?

It’s definitely time to stop living in someone else’s shadow, or in fear of being judged harshly and treated poorly.

Seriously, life is about rejections and growth.

Life is about learning from your mistakes and coming out stronger in the end.

It’s time to take a stand in your own life and do the things you’re afraid of.

Really! We only have a short time on this earth and honestly, even that isn’t promised to us. Heck, I could fall asleep in the next five minutes and never wake back up.

We’re not promised a damn thing in this world. Or owed anything either.

If you want something badly enough, go out and make it happen.

You want to be a writer?

Then write!

You want to be published??

Then get out there and set yourself up for a couple dozen rejections and don’t stop there!

Or better yet, research the self publishing world and try that on for size 🤷🏻‍♀️

A lot is changing for me over the next two months and I’m both excited and nervous as hell for it. And I’ll be sharing every moment with all of you 💕

Taking time to write bad crap and making plans

“One must first write badly in order to write good”

I’ve been taking that to heart this month as I prep for  NaNoWriMo in the upcoming weeks.

I’ve also been sitting aside a reasonable amount of funds to help network myself as a writer and novelist. Granted, the most important thing needed to be a successful writer is plenty of “material” for people to want to read and to purchase.  So me sitting here with only one published novel so far isn’t really helping my cause any… But things are in the works (shh).

But along with building my personal shelf of written works, I’m also taking the initiative to find a few writing classes and plan on getting a little more serious about all that is involved in the writing business. Besides making up interesting stories of course 😉

And I’m working on getting a few short stories completed and ready to start submitting to magazines 🙂

Yes, your girl has taken to promising herself one short story submission a month to a magazine or newspaper. Something little and simple, for when my novel is getting to cluttered and confusing, and I’m in need of a mental break from that world.

The tale end of this year is starting to shape up rather nicely for me, I’m both eager and excited for what the next few months has to bring.

Making muggle life decisions?…

How’s that for a thought-provoking title?

But in all seriousness here… Is your Job enjoyable?  It is necessary to your life?

While I was browsing through my social media accounts and catching up on some blog reading, I came across a couple posts (from fellow writers) basically bashing their jobs and talking about how creatively draining it was to go to work each day.

WOW…

I understand this, to a point.  Some day’s it is physically (and emotionally) hard to pull myself away from a good book, a research project or my current WIP, to dress accordingly and drag my butt out into the muggle world.  I’m an introvert… We don’t like people! lol  But it’s not always a chore to go to work, and the few jobs I had that did feel like that, I left after a short while.

But to hate your job that much?… Why keep it?   I mean, what is the best (or better) option for someone who feeds off of freedom and yet, still needs a decent amount of funds to live off of?

Some people give up everything and focus their lives solely on their art and creative side. But most in that situation end up relying on someone else or someone”‘s” to help support them.

Others, give up on their creativity and push it off until “the right time” comes around. Which doesn’t always happen.

And a few (myself included) try their best to balance both the creative side of their lives and the deemed “required to live” side Aka The muggle job.

And just like that, I forgot where I was going with this….. LOL Just kidding

The question all this reading made me keep asking myself is “What do you deem worth it?” When do you stop and say NO, this job or life isn’t what I want and isn’t helping get to where I want to be?

And if you decide it’s not right for you, what do you do? What is your next step?

I’ve spent so much time struggling with what I want out of life and how to make things work for the best or at least, for the better for me and those close to me. For the most part, I tend to look at those closest to me and try to make a choice that keeps them in mind and benefits the both of us.

Or, taking the advice of a good friend – If I’m unsure of what to do or what needs to change, I change nothing until I’m sure of it.

But how do you decide what is the best way? How do you decide what is worth it and what is not? When do you make the call to finally move on?

How do you make it all work?

I can’t Blog today! 😂

How on earth does one manage to write semi coherent things for people to read everyday?

I can journal everyday, that’s no problem at all. But actually writing something worth while and worth taking up someone’s time to read?.. That’s a different story.

What do people even want to read? Do that many people even read lifestyle blogs anymore, ones that aren’t about making millions from home and quitting your job to be a full-time fashion/food lover/travel blogger?

Maybe I’ve watched to many Awkward episodes and I am expecting to much from my generation these days?   Lol 😂

Originally I started blogging (way back a few platforms ago) as a way to practice and hone my writing skills, share the books I was enjoying at the time and meet others who shared the same interests.

Blogging seemed the best platform since MySpace had ended, Facebook was (and still is) boring and Twitter just didn’t have enough characters. Lol

The downside to blogging though is trying to come up with things to write about everyday. 🤷🏻‍♀️🧐

How do you do it?

How does one come up with worth while content and stories to share on a daily or semi daily bases?

And do they even need to seem like “worth while stories” to you or do you just wing it and hope someone enjoys it?

I feel like I bounce between pure Rambles and Life updates … and if someone finds it worth while, then yeah me! 😄 lol

Otherwise the art of actually writing to bringing in clients/ followers via blogging just isn’t a skill I’ve mastered … yet 😉

This is what words look like? lol…

Same old, same old with me.

I’ve been working a lot and not spending as much time as I need to be spending on my writing or my current TBR pile… I’m afraid I’ll not reach the end of these books anytime soon…

I’m really hoping to spend this weekend working on a few revisions and some edits for a new project of mine.      I’m excited to see this one through to the end. It’s only one of a few stories I’ve come up with that I honestly have no idea what the ending will be like, so It’s bringing up a few new challenges and struggles for me.

I’ve been tinkering with the idea (and doing some light research) on finding a literary agent for my books…  Not sure what will come of this just yet, but it’s an idea that has come to mind a few times and I feel it’s worth the energy to look into a bit more.

On the TBR pile note: I’ve stacked up a good …12…16… I honestly lost count lol

But! I’m determined to finish at least one before the month is over!  So I need to get cracking on it!

My reading pace has slowed way down since this time last year…ugh… I need to work on bringing it back up to snuff

Anyway! There’s my mini life update 🙂

Jen

A day in the life (writing edition)

Lord have mercy I made it! 🙌🏼

I’ve edited over 30,000 words in 2 days 😊

Extremely nervous and excited to send this off to my mentor and good friend 💚  This will be my first Solo Book…. so I’m both leary and anxious about the criticism.

To give a tid bit about the novella: It’s a modern day romance, focusing around the life of a small business owner named John.

Honestly, it almost reads like a cheesy hallmark movie. Those quant old fashion hallmark romances 😊   But it has its twists.

Still working out the finally kinks and twists. But soon… very soon this child will be out in the world 💚

Promoting myself… or something along that lines.

Slowly but surely I’m making myself seem more professional and less like a newbie who has no idea what they’re doing.

I’m currently watching the tracking info and awaiting my box of freshly printed business cards! 😊

Now, I found that business cards for a novelist/ writer can be a touchy subject. Some people say Go for it! It’s a great little promotional tool that most writers over look…”

And then I find other articles that say it’s a “…waste of time and money…” 🤷🏻‍♀️  I guess it really all depends on your outlook.

Well, I’ve decided to give it a go anyway. (Props for being spontaneous Jen👏🏼)
I look at it this way, I have one book currently published and a couple more on the way…and I need to get my name and stories out there more. Currently I’m not doing so hot in the publicity area (more like sucking terribly at something I know hardly anything about)… 😞😒.

So for me, the business cards will serve as a friendly, not so pushy way, to say “Here, check out my website” or “Yes, I’m on instagram. Follow me if you’d like.”

Or “Hey I know a great editing service… it’s linked on my website…” 😊 there’s so many ways to slip your name out there 💚 without forking it down someone’s throat. Lol

I personal feel like I have ample oppurtunites to hand out a card. Especially with starting my new job, people are always needing my number or work email for one thing or another… so why not take the opportunity to drop info on my other job?

Granted, I can’t just walk around promoting my books when I should be focusing on my other duties. But if the opportunity presents itself, I’m going to take it!

Now to just buckle down on the editing and set more of these little story ideas free 👩🏻‍💻
