New places bring new experiences and the good old fashion cold

Like waiting a month for permits to be approved so we can have heat and power in our office trailer…

Currently we spend our days playing power roulette with our electronics so we can make it through an 8hr day still “connecting” with the outside world (AKA- phone calls and emails with anyone related to this job and our SC site).

No power also means no main Wi-Fi either… meaning our hotspots run like crazy and I’m just waiting for the phone call telling me I have run over my allotted usage,  any day now.  Sooooo glad I only see and deal with the bill my personal phone accumulates in a month and not the bill the business line receives, because both have been running so much, I’m surprised I haven’t seen smoke. lol

So besides not having power, we also don’t have heat and it’s been around the 40’s lately, raining off and on and rather windy from time to time.

Cue my new found Cold …. Ugh.

 

So, like most new sites, ours is currently a dirt city. But instead of cars, we have thousand-ton equipment driving around. And instead of paved roadways to travel on, we have ruts so deep you could hide in them.

And with the recent weather we’ve had, you might be faster swimming around the site instead of walking or attempting to maneuver an ATV.

I did know a little bit about the construction business before I took this job, but there is such a big difference between knowing what goes on out on a construction site and physically working out on a construction site.  Things change so often from site to site, so you can’t ever assume things will go one way or the other and constant continued education is almost a must.

There is so much more to think about while on site besides just your specific job task. I’ve got to give props to the tradesman and women that work out in the elements and these types of conditions on a day-to-day basis and still manage to get the job done and go home safely every night.

Some of they’re task may be simple, but they can’t just think of themselves out there. Team work is a must for success.

It’s actually quite amazing to watch and see first hand what all goes into some of these structures and designs.

It takes a lot of talent, hard work and a lot of long hours.

And some of these guys really don’t know what they’re getting into when they sign up for a traveling gig like this one.  Some come well prepared , while others… well struggle with the change and new lifestyle.

One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is a lot of these guys end up eating like utter crap and have the worst immune systems I’ve ever seen (kind of like mine at this moment). At first they don’t mind eating out and ditching the time consuming task of cooking and cleaning up after themselves, but it gets old quick… and expensive.   

Really thinking about showing off my weird side and making little hotel food lists for things that are easy to make and cover all the food groups evenly.  I’m sure that’ll brighten the day up for a few people lol either they’ll like it and use it or get a laugh out of me for taking the time to make them.  Win, Win either way right? 🙂

Taking the Reins…part 2

I’m going to start this one out by saying… UGHHHHHH!…..

Recap of the last few weeks…

I’ve packed and officially moved from SC to NC!   There’s still a few things work wise to get packed up and moved over here, but for the most part, I am settled.  I’ve set myself up in a cute (I’m quit taken by it) one bedroom apartment, and I’ve already roamed around one of the local libraries and made myself  home 🙂

My mind is significantly full and my apartment… is not.  Currently my furniture consists of a bed, inversion table, one book shelf, and a stool.  Luckily, the place came with a fridge, microwave and a dish washer otherwise I would be completely lost and probably a bit stressed. They also have laundry service area on site, which buys me time to get adjusted and purchase a washer and dryer for myself. (Thank you Lord for these blessings)

My counter top has been dubbed my desk top, it’s not the most comfortable, but it’s the most convenient for me right now.  My head has been working over time since mid January, and honestly I’m eating more in the way of soul food than real food right now anyway 🙂  (Don’t worry, I’m not starving) So it makes more sense to take over my kitchen as my work space, so I’m not stuck sitting on my bed all the time. lol

I started to think my inner Carrie Bradshaw was coming out. But instead of devouring Vogue and living for fashion, I’m working my way down my list of Authors and Writers I’m determined to learn something from, And running wild with idea’s and story lines for my own work.  Hashtag #Inspired 😀 

I think I’m more of a Gilmore Girl than a Carrie Bradshaw anyway 😉   Fashion and I don’t know each other very well, and I live in steal toe boots and hoodies most of the day. So I think Carrie would cry at the site of me lol

Speaking of which, the new job site is huge. A lot bigger than the last few I’ve been on. And I’m really looking forward to watching it slowly build from the ground up.  I’m trying to keep a better photo file on this job than I did on the last one too, It was well underway before I had my Ipad set up and was able to store photos properly. This site one on the other hand, I’m well prepared for. Despite the few snags that have been intentionally tossed in my path… Good thing I played hopscotch as a kid, who knew those skills would come in handy own the road 😉

Fitness and the New year

‘Tis the season for New Year resolutions!

And the top, most requested goal/wish for the new year is becoming a healthier version of yourself.

I love-making plans for the new year, mine usually start on my birthday (which is in November). I make a few small goals to finish out the year and then save my bigger plans for January 1st 🙂

What kind of goals do you usual make for yourself?

How do you set yourself up to crush them?

Writing them down is always great step towards making them stick and helping them come one step closer to reality. 

Some people also suggest sharing the news with close friends or family as a way to help keep yourself accountable. But I’ve also heard about the “working in silence” strategy too-  Keeping the main goal (and reasoning why) to yourself to avoid negative remarks and unwanted comments. Understandable.

Today is seems even those wanting to be fit and healthy are getting shamed and treated like complete outsiders.

I love fitness and I’m in the process of making it more than just a hobby. I’ve been into fitness since way back when I first watched  The Biggest Loser  as a preteen and fell in love with Jillian Michaels  way of training 🙂   Around that same time I became a life long fan of Zuzka Light ( at that time she only had Youtube videos. Easy, but effective, at home High Intensity Interval Training- AKA “HIIT”. )   Since then she has grown immensely evenly in her training and business.

I could talk for hours about who I derive motivation from, but those two bombshell women will always be at the top of my list and my most inspiring idols.

So back to the fit shamming …. Do you have Instagram? If so, simply looking up “Fit” in the hashtags will show you a huge assortment of fitness loving individuals and their amazing journey while they become healthier and grow in the fitness field.  Then if you go as far as reading their captions (which most people fail to do now in this quick paced world) and further by reading the comments …. You’ll not just find motivated and loving comments meant to inspire the individual who made the post, but you’ll also find those lovely trolls who feel like everyone needs to feel miserable and unhappy no matter what they’re doing.

Personally, If you appreciate your sanity and like to believe that people cannot be so nasty towards other people trying to turn their health around or working their bums off to reach a goal… I wouldn’t dive to deep into the comment sections.

But that’s just my opinion. 

Today it seems we have to work even harder to keep our mental health in check while trying to grow and live our lives.

And no, I don’t believe – “If people stop putting their lives on Social media, they wouldn’t have to deal with trolls and hate…”.  Because this kind of hate is everywhere right now.   It’s at work, in our homes and schools. Heck, you can get heckled just walking down the street.

No. I believe this is all the more reason we must talk about what we love and learn to grow confident in what we have to share and say.

Either way, Stand for who you are and what you believe in.  And don’t shut others out just because they think differently than you do.  Stay open-minded, and willing to learn why others love what they do and who they are.

I feel like I have jumped ship a little here, but when I get talking you never know which way I’ll end up going. lol

Long story short-  You do you boo, You do you!
